An estimated 1,000 people attended the first-annual Prince William SPCA Pet Adopt-A-Thon and Fall Festival. It was a beautiful fall day, perfect for spending time with a favorite pooch. The sold-out exhibit area was filled with animal rescue groups, both local shelters and a variety of pet related businesses. The day began at 9:30 am with the Great Pumpkin Dog Walk, which attracted 80 walkers. The exhibits opened at 10 am and the excitement did not stop until 4 pm. There was a reading of the Dr. Seuss book, Oh the Pets You Can Get by Prince William Library Director Richard Murphy. The Victorian Society read excerpts from the Wind and the Willow. The children enjoyed the pumpkin patch and a special area just for them. They had their faces painted, got Halloween treats, and entered raffles. Few people passed up the opportunity to have their photo taken in the pumpkin patch and went home with a free keepsake photo to remind them of the fun day. The k9 Musical Freestyle demo delighted everyone. Throughout the day there were raffles, contests and even a Halloween parade around the Pavilion. Dr. Price from All Around Town Mobile Veterinary Clinic was on hand to perform microchip and rabies vaccinations. A special presentation was made to Chief Animal Control Officer Joan Strawderman for her 25 year commitment to companion animals in Manassas. The day ended with a 50/50 raffle drawing and many pets adopted! Watch this web site for information on the Second Annual Pet Adopt-A-Thon and Fall Festival!
