Pet Food Pantry

In June 2009, the Prince William SPCA opened its community pet food pantry. Since then local families have relied on the service to help feed their pets. The pantry receives no subsidy from state, city, federal or county agencies and relies entirely on the public to stock its shelves. The program is not meant to be a long-term solution for feeding any family’s pet, but rather a helping hand when times are tough. We hope that everyone who uses this program will give back to it when their circumstances change.  The Pet Food Pantry is located in the front Lobby of the Manassas City Animal Adoption Center.  The PWSPCA volunteers thank the shelter and its staff for administrating and allowing space for this program.

What to Donate

The pantry needs almost any wet or dry pet food for puppies, dogs, kittens and cats and will also accept bird, rabbit, and other small animal food. We prefer cans, pouches and smaller bags of food so more families can benefit from the donations. However, we will accept large bags. If you have open food bags, we will accept them as long as they are properly sealed and show no signs of pests. Also accepted based on space and as long as they are new and unused: toys, beds, litter and other pet supplies. Donations of gift cards from Wal-Mart, Target, Wegmans, and other stores where pet food is sold may be mailed directly to the Prince William SPCA at PO Box 6631, Woodbridge, VA 22195.

How to Start a Pet Food Collection

Neighborhoods, churches, schools and workplaces are great resources for pet food collection drives. They can be held any time of year and coordinated by anyone. Parents, teachers or scout leaders should note that collecting donations for the pantry is a fantastic way to get children and teens involved with helping animals, especially during the summer months.” Collection bags can be obtained by e-mailing the PWSPCA at pwspca@pwspca.org.
